The group of State Duma deputies "Baikal" is going to solve environmental and other problems of the Baikal region.
State Duma deputies from the Irkutsk region, the Trans-Baikal region, Buryatia and Yakutia formed a group of "Baikal" to the federal level to represent the interests of the Baikal region. As told to "Baikal Info" State Duma deputy from the Irkutsk Region Sergey Ten, the main purpose of such an association has been the protection of Lake Baikal, the solution of environmental problems and development of tourism on the Baikal. One of the founders of "Baikal" became a State Duma deputy Mikhail Slipenchuk Buryatia. Total in group - 13 members.
According to Sergey Ten, it is planned that a group of "Baikal" will work to address the problem of existence of the Baikal Pulp and paper mill on the shore of Lake Baikal. This question is Sergei Ten discussed at a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Pashkov, where all agreed that the BPPM should be closed, and the need to resolve the issue of employment of workers of the plant.
